Frequently Asked Questions

Quick facts regarding material procurement, performance parameters, and setup.

What temperature can Standard Ceramics refractory bricks withstand?
Our refractory bricks are engineered to withstand operating temperatures from 1300°C up to 1790°C, depending on the grade. Fire clay bricks handle standard furnace conditions, high alumina bricks are built for the most demanding heat and chemical environments, and our silica insulation bricks provide reliable long-term service in furnace crowns and insulation zones.
What is the difference between fire clay and high alumina bricks?

Fire clay bricks are the workhorse of general-purpose furnace linings, durable, cost-effective, and reliable for standard-duty applications. High alumina bricks contain a higher alumina content, giving them greater strength, better resistance to slag and chemical attack, and the ability to perform in more aggressive environments like cement rotary kilns and steel ladles. If your process involves heavy loads, corrosive slags, or extreme heat, high alumina is the right choice.

How do I choose the right refractory brick for my furnace?
The right refractory depends on four things: your operating temperature, the chemical environment inside the furnace, the mechanical load on the lining, and how often the furnace heats and cools. Rather than guessing, share your furnace type and process details with our application engineers; we’ll recommend the correct grade, shape, and installation approach at no cost. Getting this decision right is what determines whether your lining lasts months or years.
How long do refractory bricks typically last?
Service life depends on the application, but well-selected refractory linings typically last anywhere from several months to many years. Cement kiln linings usually run 8-14 months, steel ladle linings last for a set number of heats, and glass tank linings can serve for several years. The two biggest factors are choosing the correct grade for your conditions and ensuring professional installation, both areas where our technical team adds measurable life to your lining.
